Working Days Calculator: What Counts as a Business Day
Business days exclude weekends and "federal holidays" — but federal holidays vary by country and by industry.
A working day or business day typically excludes Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays in the local jurisdiction. The 11 US federal holidays: New Year (Jan 1), MLK Day (3rd Mon Jan), Presidents Day (3rd Mon Feb), Memorial Day (last Mon May), Juneteenth (Jun 19), Independence Day (Jul 4), Labor Day (1st Mon Sep), Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day (2nd Mon Oct), Veterans Day (Nov 11), Thanksgiving (4th Thu Nov), Christmas (Dec 25). When a holiday falls on a weekend, the observed holiday is the adjacent Friday or Monday. SEC settlement timelines (T+2), payroll cutoffs, and contract delivery dates all depend on this definition. Our Working Days Calculator handles US holidays; verify other jurisdictions separately.
